Winter tyre and snow chain regulation

RTA Discussion paper - September 2008

The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) is proposing a new regulation that will require vehicles with four wheel drive transmission systems to be fitted with winter tyres or to carry and fit snow chains when directed. The regulation will apply on designated snow and ice risk sections in the Alpine Region between the June and October long weekends and will include large off-road vehicles, sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and all wheel drive vehicles (AWDs).
